Our story

Here at Totem, we’ve been designing and building award-winning loudspeakers for over 30 years, and in that time we’ve learned a thing or two about what it takes to create truly great sound.

KinbyTotem was created in 2015 as a sub-brand designed to offer a more accessible and easy-to-use product for a younger crowd. And of course, being created by the same sound sage who dreamed up Totem in the first place, you can be sure that the KinbyTotem sound is just as exceptional as anything else bearing our name.

Why we created KIN

We’ve all been there. You’re stuck on a long commute, or you’re in a crowded place, and you just need to tune out the world for a bit. So you put on your headphones and turn up the music. But what if, instead of helping you escape from reality, your music made you feel more anxious and lonely?

We want to break this isolation by giving you the opportunity to listen to music that will make you escape from reality when you need it, immerse yourself in it and forget about your troubles.

The idea to create Kin came from a very human situation: anxiety is more and more prevalent among young people in our society, and music can help in this kind of situation. However, music is ineffective when listened to with a phone, especially with headphones. High-quality speakers are expensive, and we wanted to make them more affordable without sacrificing quality. Thus, Kin was created with the goal of providing great sound at an affordable price for the next generation. We believe everyone deserves to experience the power of great music, and we are committed to making it a reality.
